Palmyra, also known
as bassina, is obtained from the stems
of dry sago palms (Borassus
flabelliformis), which come from India
and Sri Lanka. The colour of this fiber
can vary from rust to brown and it
displays a variable degree of rigidity,
classified by means of different
commercial denominations (medium stiff,
prime stiff). This fiber is normally
oiled in order to make in more workable
in brush- and broom-making machines and
is primarily used for brooms and floor
scrubbers for exterior use.
