Tampico is obtained from the leaves
of the agave or century plant (Lechuguilla)
which grows primarily in Mexico. The
thick, fleshy leaves are cut and then
beaten with sticks or put through
special machines in order to extract the
fibers. Once separated, the fibers are
allowed to dry in the sun and then
selected according to thickness and
length. Thanks to its extraordinary
characteristics in terms of
hygroscopicity, biodegradability and
resistance to heat and harsh chemical
agents, tampico is used in many kinds of
brushes for both domestic and industrial
applications.
